Do we need to fake it?

According to the Today show, today is national honesty day, the last day of April. If Matt & Savannah say it’s so….

Coincidently, I’ve been thinking lately about the antithesis of honesty. To fake or not to fake?

I’m just not sure where to start…my history of faking it…my older self rarely faking it…my former & current family faking it…or not. Too much there. And, too personal to detail here.

However, what about all of the modern faking of all kinds by so-called friends, acquaintances, & strangers?  Fakes are everywhere we go. Thus, when we stumble upon genuine, unique characters, we find a little Heaven on earth.

We all want honesty & truth to prevail & improve our lives.

We all need honesty. Really need it, for sure.

I walked into a great family movie last night about a work-aholic dad, his submissive wife, neglected kids, and illuminating/corruptive nanny….yes, Mary Poppins. Really. But, the truth did prevail and all ended well, thanks to Walt Disney & Co. of 50 years ago.

Having about two decades of sales & small business management experiences in my gut, I’m convinced that we are only as successful as what each of us accomplished today. Your college transcript means nothing. Your resume’ means very little.  What really matters are proven results you influenced and your potential to do so moving forward for others. You cannot fake those.

Enjoy your national honesty day today….and, hopefully, many positive results to come for you & yours.

“…for Heaven’s sake!”

So dapper. Another tale of two very different boys. Very different.

Max, with his matching fedora, vest, & slacks…you literally get this picture. A tie?  He’s the only one in this family who will wear a tie. Really. Boy Reagan…he’s his own guy too. Nice vest…by mom’s choice, but shirt-tail out…rebel yell.
Both great boys. Just typically different.

Classic.

If you’ve followed this journey from two years ago, you understand my giving up organized religion. 43 years of it was enough.

Well, in the “apple doesn’t fall far” department…here goes…

Young Reagan is standing on our bed Easter morn, not feeling the spirit, and offering “this is what you want” re: going to church. Instantly, I retort “Not exactly. Easter is important to your Mom and I love her. I’m with you, but if all of us at church this morn makes her happy, let’s go.”.  He had, for once, nothing to say.

Fast-forward to our church parking lot…getting out of our car…boy offers, when being rushed to pick up his pace…”It’s just church…for Heaven’s sake”. I could not let that go.

Pointing at him, I offered “Do you know how funny that was?”. I repeated his quote and it kinda sunk in. Slam church while referencing Heaven. Really my kinda Methodist funny.

Boys did great during the ceremony of Easter church. We all did early church just fine.

Easter lunch at our home was great with our two moms. Missing dads, but it was swell.

Our girls were off and having a great Easter too.

Beautiful & dashing is this couple.

All is well. Jesus is still the Lord, to me…but…I just don’t need the ceremonies & dressy rituals required every Sunday.

Find your religion, wherever that is.
Love it. Read about it. Live it.

In short, do what you need to do.

Thanks for joining me here again,
Brad

Baggage be gone…again.

Baggage be gone…again..

Baggage be gone…again.

Our weekend is here.

Sun. Fun. Camping. All good.

I dropped some more baggage this morn and it feels really good. Family vs. Business demands? Easy.  Onward and upward, family.

An email also arrived that reminds me why family trumps everything. Great timing, kid. Now, we get to purge more baggage/stuff to help our oldest girl move forward on her journey.

She returns next week from working and literally hanging out in Panama. God bless her.

Both of our college girls love adventure. Gin & I do, as well. It’s in our blood.

At my middle-age, we don’t have time for baggage & S.O.B.’s & ex-wives.

We just have now.

Moving on now….

Today’s 3’s. A geriatric trifecta.

Hard to believe that I can be inspired by Hugh Hefner.  (insert many jokes here)

However, I am today. Hef is 88 today. Old, wrinkly, and seemingly happy. That should be enough. Throw in his gift of entrepreneurship, the backbone of capitalism & truly free nations, and I’m inspired. No moral high-horse required. He took his broken heart at 16 and reinvented himself over and over again. More than just one carnal magazine. Hef created television content with, god forbid, mixed races. Betcha never thought of Hef as a civil rights leader. He was. Thanks to the most intelligent & fun morning show, the CBS Morning show, I’m a little more enlightened. Love that show.

Hef was 1 of 3.

On my morning wog, I passed number 2. Think of Hef decked out in 70’s era workout clothes. Olivia’s “Let’s get physical” garb. Bless his heart. He always waves. Very nice.

Trifecta rounds out with a similar aged chap in his sunblock garb and pith helmet. No melanoma potential there.  Dr Livingston, I’ll presume.

I don’t know any of these chaps. But, I do know this. They are all friendly, as far as I can tell. All 3 are old, but won’t submit to that. All 3 are out there, with or without young women. All 3 look very fit, as opposed to the general U.S. population. Good for them. Longevity is highly overrated without fitness & perspective.

Taking a short break from my wog, kinda jog-walk combo, and this view is nice. Not as nice as any coast, but sunny & 60ish works about anywhere. Even here.

Kudos to today’s geriatric trifecta.

Appreciate growing older …with good health, grear people, and beautiful places….

….cheers, all.

Marathon humor. But, I digress…

We awoke yesterday and I ask my love…”any church responsibilities today?”…Gin quips back quickly “just the responsibility of our childrens’ spiritual well-being”….fair enough…point taken….still funny.

But, I did get my 10k or so in, as planned, around real marathoners. What a woman Gin is. FYI, she pulled off shopping for & getting our boys to 3 kid birthday parties, a visit with robotics geniuses, many meals, church stuff, and a kid race through downtown in just 28 hours. Marathon Mom she is. Thank God.

As for this blog….

It’s been over two years now, since my organized religion sabbatical began. As of tomorrow, it’s been two years of blogging about my middle-age journey. 45+ years. 2 very different wives. It’s been over two years now, since my organized religion sabbatical began. As of tomorrow, it’s been two years of blogging about my middle-age journey. 45+ years. 2 very different wives. Not that Mormon way.  4 loved & brilliant kids. 1 true, romantic, unconditional love. Many fun and/or interesting experiences. And a handful of great friends & lots to share.

As for our most loved ones…our oldest girl returns from her Panamanian experience soon. Her FB pictures do speak volumes. Trust me.

image

Like Spain, I hope she spends a lot more time there…never settle, my dear.

Our younger girl takes off for Germany, after our beach trip. I hope she takes this summer experience and does with it what she will…never settle either, my dear Kait.

image

As for our boys, hell, Disney is going to be thier Holy Grail. I know. I know. What kind of modern parents wait until almost the ages of 8 & 10 to take two uber-boys to kiddy God’s country?  That would be us.

image

Isn’t a nice soak on a mountain peak enough?

image

Nah. I get it.

March has been wonderful.

Forget March Madness. Give me perpetual Spring Breaks.  While, Bri enjoyed Panama, Kait and I enjoyed SW Florida. The food, conversations, weather, arts, and beach…in that order. Loved it.

Weekend break. Then, off to our Smoky Mountain top with boys & friends. Quick drive to a few days of high-altitude fun.  Very nice.

image

Long hike. Sweet falls. Keeping it simple, folks…void of techy gadgets…while outside…see there…

image

Tomorrow is no fools day. Sunny and 75 sounds very smart to me. The river walk will just have to do….but… I still prefer….

image

Just sayin.

So, that’s two years of selected experiences, perpetual philosophy, and stories about those who matter to or annoy me the most.

I’ve tried to be positive…but real.

Keep life simple. Really love who matters. Ignore the rest. And Just be the Cause. JustBeCause. Get it?

Love to the 3+ dozen folks following this and to any friend or acquaintance taking this in.

Just be your own Cause for good. Family. Friends. Strangers. Sometimes a blend, it seems.

Just Be Cause.

Cheers!

image

Now, that’s funny.

Cheers, part deux! Stay thirsty, my friends.
